Mississippi River Flood 2008

These picture are from an email sent to me by one of my daycare mom's Dana. She and her husband work over the river in Iowa. He works at the prison in Ft Madison and She works for a dentist in Keokuk. The Bridge in Ft Madison is now closed, Burlington is closed, and Keokuk was closed last night but opened up this morning. When she dropped off her kids this morning she was praying that they would be able to get back across to pick up there kids that afternoon. Her husband made it but he had to drive from Ft. Madison, (right by the bridge) around to Keokuk and cross there, the trip took him about 3 hours with the wait at the bridge. The road to the keokuk bridge from Hamilton is 4 lanes two going each direction. Before the river rose too high the road crews built up one lane, that is what people are driving on, the water you see in the pictures is the other lanes. From what the news said this morning the water will not crest until sometime Friday...it's still rising.

I think they have done an amazing job of keeping the bridges open as long as possible.
